Service / Fertilization & weed control

Feed it right and most weed problems never start

Seven visits a year, timed to soil temperature rather than the calendar, feeding the lawn on a schedule and stopping weeds before they germinate.

Why it matters

Fertilization & Weed Control

Almost every lawn we are called out to look at has the same story behind it: a bag of whatever was on sale, spread at the wrong rate, at the wrong time of year. Turf is not complicated, but it is unforgiving about timing. Our program is built around soil temperature and your grass type, not around a calendar reminder — which is why the pre-emergent goes down when the ground hits the right temperature and not on the first warm Saturday in March.

What is included

Six things in the price

Soil test in year one

We pull and lab-test a sample before the second visit, so the program is built on your actual pH and nutrient levels.

Split pre-emergent barrier

Applied in two passes rather than one, which extends the barrier through the whole germination window instead of half of it.

Slow-release nitrogen

Granular feed that releases over six to eight weeks. No surge growth, no burn, no mowing twice a week in May.

Broadleaf spot treatment

Dandelion, clover, henbit and spurge treated where they are, not blanket-sprayed across a lawn that does not need it.

Nutsedge and grassy weed control

Handled as a separate post-emergent pass in mid summer, when it actually works.

Free return visits

If something breaks through between scheduled visits, we come back inside three business days at no charge.

The season

Visit by visit, in order

Timing shifts by a few weeks north to south, and your local owner adjusts to the actual weather. Soil temperature decides the schedule, not the calendar.

Late winter

Visit 1 — Pre-emergent and first feed

The barrier goes down before soil temperature reaches the mid fifties, which is when crabgrass starts germinating. Paired with a light slow-release feed to wake the turf up.

Early spring

Visit 2 — Second pre-emergent, broadleaf

The second half of the split barrier extends coverage through late spring. Winter broadleaf weeds get spot-treated on the same trip.

Late spring

Visit 3 — Growth feed

Nitrogen for the main growing season, balanced with potassium so the lawn is carrying reserves into summer heat.

Early summer

Visit 4 — Slow-release and insect scouting

Lower nitrogen, higher potassium. Your technician walks the lawn for chinch bug and armyworm activity and flags anything developing.

Mid summer

Visit 5 — Heat-hold application

Iron for colour without forcing growth in the worst heat, plus the nutsedge pass. This is the visit that keeps July from undoing April.

Early fall

Visit 6 — Recovery feed and broadleaf

The most important feeding of the year for warm-season turf. Rebuilds root mass after summer stress and knocks down fall broadleaf germination.

Late fall

Visit 7 — Winterizer

A potassium-heavy final application for cold tolerance and a faster green-up in spring.

What you get

Questions

Asked often enough to answer here

Is it safe for kids and pets?

Products are applied by licensed applicators at label rates, and the standard guidance is to stay off treated areas until they are dry — typically one to two hours for liquids. Your technician leaves a note on the door with the specific re-entry time for what was applied that day.

Do I have to be home?

No. We need gate access to the back yard, so most customers leave a gate unlocked or give us a code. You get a text the day before and a service note when we leave.

How fast will I see a difference?

Colour usually improves within two to three weeks of the first feed. Thickening out a thin lawn takes a full season, and repairing one that has been neglected for years takes two. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling.

Can I stay on my current mowing service?

Yes, and most customers do. We do not mow. We are happy to coordinate timing with whoever cuts your grass so applications are not mown off the next morning.
